Salted Caramel Chocolate Slice

Mmmmm......
I baked today !!!!

You have to try this delectable slice at least once.
It's beautiful.
The salted caramel combined with velvety dark chocolate tastes simply exquisite as it melts over your tongue.

The recipe came from here:

Sisters xxx

This afternoon I had the pleasure of lunching with my mother and her two sisters. Mum is the second eldest and therefore suffers from 'Middle Child Syndrome' - or so she likes to remind us at every opportunity. Hmmm.....I'm a middle child. Was I neglected ???
Mum is the one sitting in the middle of her two sisters in the photo above. Heather, the eldest girl, is at the back. Pat, the youngest girl is at the front. This is the only photo the family knows of that captures the childhood of all three girls at once. It's a shame we can't see Auntie Heather's face.

Here they are as they look today. They've changed a little in 60+ years I think!

After lunch we drove to George Street in Ulverstone where the sisters spent their teenage and early adult years. They had a wonderful time reminiscing even though everything had significantly changed.

Auntie Heather

Am amazing and talented woman who has remained a constant throughout my entire life.
I feel the utmost admiration and respect for her. xxx

Love and Loss

Today I visited my mother's sister, Heather.
Her husband recently passed away after sharing her life with him for over 50 years.
Intense grief is probably the cruelest of all human emotions.
She came within a whisper of death's door herself.
Her heart had shattered into a thousand pieces.

I have experienced grief to a degree.
I have lost loved ones over the years and can identify with heart-ache.

I have not experienced grief in its purest form however.
I have not lost a child. I have not lost my life partner.
I fear with every fibre of my being if or when that day ever comes.

My beautiful aunt is taking one day at a time.

It's hard for her though.
Really hard.

I love you Auntie Heather. xxx
